Which Linux Certification Program should I focus on?

Choosing which Linux Certification program is not an easy decision. There are 3 main certification bodies, each of which has their own ideas on what knowledge is needed to become "certified". I'll try to shed some light as to the direction and focus each one has.

  • Sair Linux and GNU Certified Administrator, LCP and LCA
    There are four examinations: Installation & Configuration 101, System Administration 102, Networking 103, and Security, Ethics and Privacy 104. Each test consists of 50 questions. To pass the examination, 74% or 37 out of 50 questions must be answered correctly.
    • LCP certificate
      Must pass either Installation & Configuration 101 or System Administration 102
    • LCA certificate
      Must pass all four exams at Level 1
  • Sair Linux and GNU Certified Engineer, LCE
    Being Developed by Sair
    Must pass all four exams at Level 2
  • Master Sair Linux and GNU Certified Engineer, Master LCE
    Being Developed by Sair
    Must pass all four exams at Level 3
LPI, Linux Professional Institue
Yes
  • LPIC Level 1
    • Exam 101: General Linux I
    • Exam 102: General Linux II
  • LPIC Level 2 - Currently being developed by the LPI
    • Exam 201: Advanced administration (not Linux specific)
    • Exam 202: Linux optimization
  • LPIC Level 3 - Currently being developed by the LPI
    Must pass any two of the 300-level exams
    • Exam 321: Windows Integration (working together with NT-server, many Win'9x clients)
    • Exam 322: Internet Server (listservers, newsserver, FTP, HTTP; DNS, ISP, NFS; maybe perl scripting)
    • Exam 323: Database Server
    • Exam 324: Security, Firewalls, Encryption
    • Exam 325: Kernel Internels & Device drivers (probably know C); Creating distribution packages.
    • Exam 32x: Additional elective exams
Red Hat
No
  • Red Had Certified Engineer (RHCE)
    Either one of the following can be used to get the RHCE certificate:
    • RH300 - A day long lab-based exam following a four day long intensive training course.
    • RH302 - The above exam without the course, study on your own
